Brand new 228i M Sport OR CPO 428i M Sport? I'm getting rid of my R56 in the spring (fingers crossed that the timing chain tensioner and guides hold together until then) and have all but narrowed down my next car to the two choices listed above. Thoughts? Other options?

228i M Sport sportline manual.

Easiest question ever.

I'd have to drive both, but I'm guessing I'd go with the smaller car. There was a chance we were going to move to Europe a couple years back, and I decided we'd get a Volvo C30, because it's a size I'm very comfortable with.

Why not M235i? Just curious. Other than that, what do you want for your next car in terms of characteristics?

NEW Miata

CPO Cayman/Boxster

non CPO used 997

Boss 302

RS4

CPO E92 M3 (this is the best choice)

Do you have kids? Will you?

Only reason I can think of to get the longer car is for the slightly better rear leg room and slightly bigger rear seats (could make setting up car seats easier)

Also - do you care about looking richer when you see the ladies, clients, etc?

Cause the 4 Series will always be more impressive to non car people. Simply because it's bigger and more expensive.

When you get your E90 M3 you'll never go back to cloth seats...even if you get the cloth/leather manual seats (though I can't recommend them, they're not very adjustable)

11/28/2014 at 20:47

Id say test drive both, then report back. :)

I always get a bit nervous when people say it's 'enough'. It begs the question of whether or not enough will satisfy you, for how long, or will you want more.

I much prefer the looks of the 4 series but the 2er is apparently a nimbler/better car to drive. Drive both and go on your preference there if pricing isn't too dissimilar.

Otherwise, maybe a (CPO?) Mk.7 GTI, or are you looking specifically to get away from front wheel drive?

Fwiw, the MK.7 is an excellent car and the GTI dials up the fun but if you really want BMW dynamics, you can't really go anywhere else.

Maybe check out an ATS just to see how that compares; I like how the coupe looks and it's supposed to be a decent driver as well.
